What is included in the box?
In the box: the Active (Right) speaker, the Passive (Left) speaker, a speaker cable to connect the two, a power cord, one HDMI 2.0 cable, the remote, 2x AAA batteries for it, and the product documentation.
Which speaker do I connect to power, and which one is "Active"?
The Right speaker is the Active speaker. You can easily identify it: it has the power plug, it has all the controls (Treble, Bass and Volume knobs, the Bluetooth button, the Power/Source button, the LED ring and every input terminal), and it carries a green label marked RIGHT.
Only the Active (Right) speaker connects to AC power. It powers the Left (Passive) speaker through the speaker cable, so the Left speaker has no power connection of its own.
How do I connect the Active and Passive speakers to each other?
1. Loosen the red and black terminals on both speakers.
2. Insert the silver end of the speaker cable with the red sleeve into the red terminal on the Active (Right) speaker and tighten.
3. Insert the other red-sleeve end into the red terminal on the Passive (Left) speaker and tighten.
4. Insert the plain silver ends into the black terminals on both speakers and tighten.
A loose connection is the single most common cause of weak sound, or no sound at all, from one speaker.
NOTE: Do not interchange the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals. You can also use any speaker wire of your choice, if the given wire falls short in your speaker placement setup.
How far apart can I place the two speakers?
The supplied speaker cable is 2 metres, so that is the maximum distance between the two speakers, unless you use your own speaker wires to connect the left and right speakers further apart than 2 meters . The ideal height for speakers is to place both left and right speakers at ear height when seated and angle them slightly inward towards the listening position.
Which speaker goes on the left and which on the right? Can I swap them?
The Active speaker is the Right channel and the Passive speaker is the Left channel. This is fixed, and the Active speaker is labelled RIGHT in green. There is no L/R swap setting on speakers yet, so if your room forces the powered speaker onto the left side, the stereo image will be reversed unless you are using Aux input, in which case just reverse the RCA Red and White of cables with the Speakers. Since the Active speaker also needs a power socket and holds all the input cables, plan the placement around it.
What size are the speakers?
Each speaker box measures 174 x 273 x 235 mm (W x H x D). Allow a shelf at least 250 mm deep, plus a few centimetres behind the Active speaker for the input cables.
The retail box measures 400 x 450 x 300 mm.
How long are the cables included in the box?
The Lumio Aura 5 has 3 types of cables included in the box.
- HDMI cable: 1.5 metres. Connects Aura 5 to your TV’s HDMI ARC port.
- Power cable: 1.5 metres. Connects the Active speaker (right speaker) to a wall socket.
- Speaker cable: 2 metres. Connects the Active speaker to the Passive speaker (left speaker).
The speaker cable sets how far apart the two speakers can be, so you can place them up to about 2 metres apart. If you need more distance, any good quality standard speaker wire would work.
Where are the input ports, and which speaker do I connect my devices to?
All the input ports are on the back of the Right (Active) speaker: HDMI ARC, USB, Optical, Coaxial and AUX (RCA). This speaker contains the amplifier, the DAC and the Bluetooth receiver. It’s also the one that plugs into the wall, and it has the volume, bass and treble knobs.
The Left (Passive) speaker has no ports or power of its own. It only has speaker terminals and is driven by the Active speaker through the supplied speaker cable.
Since the power and HDMI cables are both 1.5 metres long, place the Active speaker on the side closest to your TV and power socket.
